Grace came home this week with her adorable new baby boy Valiant Amazing Grace.
Since I live far out in the bush, I decided to send my mares to my vet’s ranch to foal out. It gives me peace of mind to know that my mares are in a safe environment with top professional people around.
Valient is sired by Von und Zu (Vitalis) who is a young up and coming dressage star. Von und Zu was awarded a 10 for rideability at his stallion inspection! I think it is safe to say that comes from the impeccable genetics of his Sire Vitales.
I have been looking at lots of pictures of Von und Zu first foal crop to see how they look, and man, are they ever pretty babies. One thing I noticed they all seem to have a well-developed posterior, well almost like that of a Quarter Horse – not a bad thing to look for in a coming dressage star as the power of riding comes from that big behind 😊
I was kind of a bit anxious as how Montana Amazing Grace – Grace’s baby from last year – would react to seeing her mother again.
When Grace and Valiant got out of the trailer, all the ladies in the stable were so excited and kept running from one end of the coral to the other to get a better look at Valiant and Grace.
It was very clear that Grace is a proud mamma, she kept parading Valiant up and down and showing him off. Sadly for Montana, mamma Grace was no longer interested in her.
I was sort of expecting this to happen, so when Grace left in mid June to stay at the Vet’s ranch, I made sure that Montana was carefully introduced to a new friend, our 3-year-old AQHA Miss Red (blood line of the Ole Man). The two bonded very quickly, I think Red was glad to have someone around of her own size, as she has been together with my other 2 warmblood mares who are just shy of 18 hands 😊
Yes, horses create friendships and bonds that last a lifetime, and I am so honoured to know that Tesse, the queen of the stable and my dressage horse, considers me her life-long friend. And I am equally grateful for how much Grace has bonded with me and was so happy to be home again.
A huge thank you goes to Charles Ranch for taking so good care of my precious Grace and Valiant.
Look out for my next blog post, where I will introduce you to my new mare, the magnificent Feline.
