Daisy and Red, on their very first day at our ranch, greeted by a very inquisitive Odin
Meet our Quarter horse babies Daisy and Red. They arrived here at our ranch in Mid October. The day we went to pick them, was the first day this year with snow. When we finally made it home with our two little cuties, it was already dark. The little girls had never seen snow before, so when we finally convinced them to step out of the trailer, they were very confused about the strange white stuff on the ground. It took a lot of patience, talking with a calm voice, to finally convince them to move through the snow and into the stable.
We had made sure all the big horses were safely out on the back field, so they could not interfere with the little girls. Once inside the stable, we got the little cuties settled in a box stall filled with straw.
We decided to keep them inside the stable for the first 24 hours in order to give them an opportunity to settle down, get to know us a bit and eat good hay.
We fenced in part of the area around the stable to give the little girls a place to stretch out, while keeping them apart from the big horses.
It was so funny to see how the big horses reacted the first time they saw the little fillies. Tesse, our queen, went over to look them over; Odin, our Frisian yearling, figured out how to get close to them.
We have decided to keep the little fillies separate from the rest of the herd until they are old enough to be part of the group. As things are now, the fillies need special feed rations; and need the peace to eat it at their leisure.
We have had them for 6 weeks now and they are very well settled here and have already grown 😊
