We decided that it would be fun to introduce each other. Sometimes when you have to write your own professional bio, it can be rather daunting to find the right amount of information, which is relevant.
Jessica the Nurse
Jessica is a highly professional, well respected RN, who is always planning her next step in education. I think her colleagues would describe her as being compassionate, but a no-malarkey kind of nurse. That attitude is also the way she deals with her horses.
Meeting Jessica
I first met Jessica about 10 years ago. One of my dressage training students asked me to take a look at Moxy, Jessica’s horse. She said the horse was unruly, difficult to handle and had a tendency to buck.
Within our very first lesson, Jessica and I agreed that Moxy was a horse that needed clear guidance from her rider. Not too much fiddling, sit up straight and quietly, and then praise her when she gets it right.
To quote Jessica, “I saw how much my horse was trying instead of how badly she was behaving”.
I truly believe that sometimes we need someone on the ground who can spot things from a different angle and thus create a new path to training.
Moxy and Jessica went on to be part of the Drill Team that performed in the PNE – with a bitless bridle no-less.
Jessica the rider
As a rider and horse trainer, Jessica always looks to the horse and asks the question. She then gives the horse time to answer. She has a firm hand, but a kind one; she shows her horses leadership, direction and never gives up the chance of trying something new and fun.
I truly enjoy being a business partner with Jessica as we communicate well together and are on the same page as what we want to achieve with our business. We are both strong proponents of science and seek knowledge from reputable experts who have done the research.
I must also add that Jessica has a really good eye for finding the “Dimond in the rough”. Last summer, she bought a horse for me, our sweet boy Odin (Frisian/Percheron cross yearling). I told her what I was looking for, and she went out and found him for me, bought him, took him to her farm where I picked him and saw him in person for the first time. And what a delight Odin is 😊
