The beautiful and Amazing Moxy
Faith is not our only Canadian, as Jessica also owns the lovely Moxy. It was through Moxy that Jess and Aida met, and the rest is history.
Canadian horses are considered endangered due to the dwindling numbers registered each year. The Canadian Government had breeding farms mostly located in Quebec to preserve some of these bloodlines that would have otherwise been lost forever. Every Canadian horse is so special genetically and historically.
The lovely mare Moxy, owned and trained by Jessica, has very refined, feminine looks even for a Canadian. Moxy, who stems from some rare bloodlines, is by Beaubett Rex Maximilian.
Character
Moxy has lots of get up and go, she is extremely athletic and loves speed, which is a bit unusual for the Canadian breed, who tend to be a bit more laid back. Moxy is very much an individual owner horse who has strongly bonded with Jessica, who has owned her for 13 years.
The struggle and overcoming it
The first few years with Moxy were not easy ones. She had perhaps not been trained very well and was very suspicious of any new ask. It was as if Moxy was telling us that she would not put up with anything that made her uncomfortable. She would buck very badly when asked to canter, or would pick up speed and refuse to slow her trot until she was lathered in sweat.
After making sure Moxy had no physical issues that would cause her to react so forcefully, Jessica made many adjustments to the tack and finally found that a bitless bridle was what Moxy felt most comfortable in. Many other riders would have given up on Moxy, but Jessica could sense the soul of that horse. She never gave up on Moxy, and I think that is what finally convinced Moxy that she was loved, respected and wanted. The change in her after attaining that realisation is phenomenal.
Successful training
If you had seen how Moxy reacted to the slightest irregularity in the ask of training, you would never have believed that Moxy and Jessica would go on to become part of a show team that participated in the PNE Vancouver! that preformed in a quadrille team for 4 years. The lovely Moxy would
the pattern long before Jessica did, and would go through her moves like a pro – never once being bothered if one of the other horses went off script.
Loving a Canadian horse is a deep and lifelong commitment; gain their respect and trust, this breed will have your back every step of the way! And just when you think you know them, they will surprise you again and again with their love, their faithfulness, their intelligence, their athleticism, and their beauty. We are so proud to be owners of these two Canadian mares, Faith and Moxy.
