Introducing Aida
By Jessica Tonn
First we introduce our horses, then ourselves. J Aida is a wonderful horsewoman I met in the small British Columbia town of Clearwater. As mentioned in our blog post, For The Love of Moxy on our website, www.gracehorses.ca, Moxy and I were having a very hard time understanding each other. I met Aida through my riding coach at time.
Aida walked into the ring and began to tell me what Moxy was experiencing. Instead of criticizing my horse, she helped me to fix my position to help her. Suddenly I saw how much my horse was trying instead of how badly she was behaving; suddenly I saw how I could help Moxy, not hinder her, suddenly my world changed.
With her doctorate in Education Psychology, a life-long passion for horses and riding, Aida is a wonderful mixture of knowledge and kindness, skills and dedication, visions and reality. Aida has studied horseback riding and the art of communicating with both horse and rider. She has been brilliantly successful in the business world teaching and helping others to communicate effectively.
Aida took her Tesse, a gorgeous warmblood filly, and created a wonderful, flowing partnership over the years with dedicated and purposeful training and riding. Aida is experienced with the refined breeding system in Europe, creating some of the best dressage horses in the world. Canada’s horse breeding programs are not as refined as those of Europe. This was a great surprise to Aida.
It has taken time for sure, but now Horses of Amazing Grace has two little Quarter Horse fillies, very well bred I will add! It is a running joke between the two of us that Aida purchased these two talented fillies, and we are super excited to share Daisy and Red with the world.
Aida has an extremely fun side too and knows how to enjoy life. Bandit, her Camaro, is often seen zipping his way up and down the park road. She is a bit of an oxymoron, a brilliant woman wrapped in a deep love of farm life and freedom, a study of human communication who loves the luxury of solitude, a rancher who loves a true high tea with dainty tea cups and all. She has been dealt some real lemons in life but has learned to take those experiences and use them to enrich the lives of those around her who care to listen, learn, and grow.
Canada is blessed to have her here, managing a guest ranch in the beautiful Wells Grey Country. After trying different uses of her 800 acer ranch, horses once again won out. Aida and Nakiska ranch provide the Clearwater home base to Horses of Amazing Grace. I am excited to introduce Aida to the world as an exceptionally talented riding coach and horse trainer, extremely knowledgeable and experienced business woman, and a dear friend and sister that I am h
onoured to call a business partner.
